Jade Memories

A million years ago I fled the cold climes of Minnesota for the milder days of the Pacific NW. The first time they visited, my parents brought me a shoot from their jade - which my Mom has had as long as I can remember. Fast forward oh.... 15 or 16 years. That shoot had grown into a bush -its huge - probably weighs over 30 pounds in the pot. I like to put it on my front porch in the summer and it thrives! One day I was sitting inside and heard a huge crash and a thud - my massive jade blew over and split in a hundred pieces.

This is one of its shoots which I took from the damaged plant and repotted. Now it sits in my kitchen window sill. I have no idea how old this jade is - gotta be like 30 years old at least.

I took a walk while laboring with my third child and plucked a jade plant to commemorate the day. I had to leave it in San Diego when I moved here. I wonder if it's okay. I loved that little plant.
